2000 Acquires JT mobiles, cellular services operator in Punjab and Andhra Pradesh and becomes the largest private sector telecom operator in India Expands South Indian footprint by acquiring SkyCell, Chennai
Singapore Telecommunications Ltd (SingTel) acquires Telecom Italia’s equity stake in the company
2002 Launches India’s first private sector national and international long distance service
Becomes the largest cellular operator in the country by entry in Kolkatta and obtaining licenses for 8 new cellular circles.
IPO through 100% book building route and lists on the BSE and NSE Acquires BT’s equity interest in the company’s cellular operations
2004 Becomes a USD 1bn revenue company Launches Blackberry® in India in an exclusive partnership with Research In Motion (RIM) Launched operations in J&K- the first private operator to do so.
2006 Acquires an all-India footprint with the launch of services in Assam Vodafone, acquires a 10% stake in the company becomes the largest integrated telecom service provider in the country.
